Profit & cash flow
We help trades and landscaping companies improve profits and manage cash flow through personal support and real, up-to-date numbers they can trust. In practice, that starts with books that are accurate and current every month. From there, we set things up so you can see how each job or service line is performing, walk you through what the numbers mean, and help you decide what to change: pricing, costs, or which work is worth chasing. Growth and Strategic clients get monthly management reports and regular review meetings, so this happens as a routine instead of a one-off.
It's one of the most common things we hear from trades and landscaping owners, and it's rarely just one thing. Usually it's a mix of pricing that doesn't fully cover your real costs, a few low-margin jobs hiding inside a healthy-looking average, overhead like equipment, vehicles, and insurance that creeps up, and timing, such as payroll and remittances coming due before customers pay.
On a free Profit Clarity Call, we look at where your numbers stand and start to show you where the money is going. If you'd like a head start, our free Job Rate Audit Toolkit lets you check whether your rates cover your costs, with no call required.
It means your books are reconciled every month, so the Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet you receive reflect what has actually happened in the business, not a guess and not last year's picture. When the numbers are current and you can trust them, you can price jobs, hire, buy equipment, or say no to a job with confidence instead of going on gut feel.
Good cash flow starts with knowing where you stand today, which is why accurate, current books come first. Every package keeps payroll, remittances, and GST/PST and WSBC filings on time, so there are fewer nasty surprises. If cash is tight or unpredictable, our Strategic package adds cash flow forecasting and monthly review meetings, so we can look ahead together at upcoming payroll, remittances, equipment payments, and slow seasons, and plan for them before they arrive.
Yes, landscaping is a big part of who we work with. Most of your revenue arrives in about six months, while equipment financing, insurance, and crew costs keep going all year, so the goal is making summer carry winter. We help you plan for that on purpose: forecasting cash through the slow months (part of our Strategic package), keeping equipment and vehicle costs tracked where they belong, and separating install work from maintenance contracts so you can see which side of the business is actually worth growing. You can read more on our landscaping bookkeeping page.
We set up your books so revenue and costs can be tracked by job or service line, for example installs versus recurring maintenance contracts. Then we show you the results in plain English and talk through what they mean. That's how you find the work that's really earning its keep, and the work that's quietly costing you money, before you commit to more of it.
Every package includes the same accurate, compliant bookkeeping, so the question is how much guidance you want on top. Foundation keeps everything handled properly and gives you answers whenever a question comes up. If your goal is to improve profit, Growth is built for it: monthly management reports, quarterly review meetings with key ratio analysis, and an annual profit & goal planning session. If cash is tight or seasonal and you want to plan ahead, Strategic adds cash flow forecasting, monthly review meetings, and quarterly strategy sessions. We'll recommend what fits on your free call, and tell you honestly if we're not the right fit.
Personal support
It depends on your package, but the thread is the same: you're working with people who know your business. Foundation gives you straight answers whenever a question comes up. Growth adds quarterly review meetings, an annual profit & goal planning session, and quarterly accountability check-ins. Strategic adds monthly review meetings, quarterly strategy sessions, and goal tracking and accountability. The aim is that the numbers actually change how you run the business.
Absolutely. Most trades and landscaping owners are experts at their craft, not at accounting, and that's exactly why we keep things simple and jargon-free. In the review meetings included with Growth and Strategic, we walk through the numbers together so you understand what they mean and what to do next. And on any package, if something doesn't make sense, just ask.
Yes. A real person always answers your emails — never an AI-generated response. Our Growth and Strategic packages include unlimited email and video support, and we're committed to timely responses — you shouldn't have to chase your bookkeeper for an answer.
Working together
We work exclusively with trades and landscaping companies — specifically construction, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and renovation companies, plus landscaping and outdoor living businesses. Our typical client is an incorporated company doing $1M–$5M a year with 5–20 employees, running on QuickBooks Online. We don't take on unrelated small businesses, because specializing is how we understand your numbers on day one.
Nothing extra. We review your existing books, get you set up cleanly in QuickBooks Online, and handle the transition as part of onboarding. Most owners find the hardest part is just making the decision — the switch itself is straightforward.
That's a very normal starting point, especially for busy owner-operators. We'll assess where things stand on your free call, get you caught up, and set up systems so it doesn't happen again.
We're a QuickBooks Online (QBO) firm, paired with Dext or Hubdoc for paperless receipt capture. If you're currently on Sage Desktop or another system, we can migrate you to QBO as part of onboarding.
Each plan is a fixed monthly fee, so there are no surprise hourly invoices. The fee is a fully allowable business expense — subject to your tax rate, a portion of the cost is effectively offset at tax time.
Every package includes the same standard of compliance — accurate bookkeeping, payroll and remittances, GST/PST and WSBC filings, monthly statements, and your year-end package. What changes is the level of guidance on top of that. Foundation gives you answers whenever questions come up. Growth adds monthly management reports, quarterly reviews with key ratio analysis, annual profit & goal planning, and authority for us to speak to the CRA on your behalf. Strategic adds monthly review meetings, cash flow forecasting, custom visual reporting, quarterly strategy sessions, and audit support.
Yes — every package includes payroll, including remittances. Higher-tier packages add extra support for larger or more complex payroll needs.
We're based in Powell River, but our service is 100% virtual and paperless, so we work with trades and landscaping companies province-wide across BC.
